Importance of Orientation while working in slicing software- What affects what ?

Hello Guys

Ever tried what affects what ,when you work with slicing software ... lets FIND OUT

Here we made an attempt to check how the time or consumption of material is affected by placing the component in different orientation in Slicing Software

The software used is Cura which is from Ultimaker Company and is a open source , the software supports a lot of 3D printers for generating the g code

Lets get started

Here you can see we created a rectangular box of dimensions 50*20*30 Using Autodesk Fusion 360,kindly note the software is available for free to students for 3 years and you can also find the course to master it on their official website Autodesk fusion 360

The model is then Converted to STL and is then imported in CURA which is a general slicing software

The following were the three orientations of design in the CURA software , not to make it complex, we decided to stick to one profile of settings and just change the orientation

The setting kept were as follows which are visible when  you look in custom setting of CURA software, The following has BRIM enabled just to add some build adhesion technique
Settings From CURA

Though there are many factors like layer height which also has initial layer height , shell thickness, printing speed, travel speed etc but here we have only considered orientation

SO here are the four changes in orientation just for understanding the effect on time of printing, the time showcased is estimated time and varies

The time taken here to print is 2 hr 28 min

The time taken for this orientation is 2 hr 23 min

The time taken for this orientation is 2 hr 34 min

lastly for inclined position ,

The time taken here is 2 hr and 15 min (Note no supports option is Activated)

We know this sounds simple, but it looks for this design ... when there are complicated parts for which 3D printing is especially used it matters a lot .
Many around fail to realize , so kindly take note the following points which can definitely help you save a few time

ORIENTATION IN 3D PRINTING IS IMPORTANT , PLEASE NOTE IT 3D PRINTING LOVERS..!!!!

3D Printing In INDIA and The level of its Maturity

Hello Guys

Recently India progressed a lot in terms of technology and the educational sector is trying the same to cope with the increasing demands in fields of technology , the important sectors emerging out in India are Internet of things, Robotics, 3D printing /Additive Manufacturing.

There are lot of promising online content available for Internet of Things /Robotics , one is the content on iotsubway for Internt of things , other is NPTEL The content on this website is free as it is from government of india and Professors from IIT take care of same.

Coming to Additive manufacturing or 3D printing as in customer case ,NPTEL , has provided videos online , but it seems to be inadequate considering the developments in the technology.

You can definitely learn all this one or the other way , but what about employment opportunities, yes new trends are showing industries now require additive manufacturing engineer or someone who has adequate knowledge in 3D printing.

There are few companies in INDIA as per our research which are into 3D printing , either producing one or reselling. Techies can find big opportunity right from designing , printing, post processing or being a sales executive at such firms

Departments like design on demand , print on demand have been established at several facilities across India and more and more people are investing in the technology

Most of the printers sold in INDIA are based on FDM i.e Fused Deposition Modelling technology
Most of the service providers are concentrating on PLA and ABS parts manufactured out of 3D Printing

Still there is immense opportunity for this sector to grow in India , even government of India has undertaken the project ATAL TINKERING LAB wherein schools register and get funded for deploying the technology in their schools , so the students know what could be their interest. So Teachers can also upgrade themselves technology wise rather than just reading the lessons in class

From Governments Official Website

Sincere efforts are being made so as the technology gets adopted around , Lets Hope INDIA excels in 3D PRINTING

Kindly let me know your thoughts and comments on this article

Thanking you

Why 3D printing Should be embraced with open Hands in INDIA?

Hello Guys ,

Love from IDEATODESIGN

Ever wondered you brought a product and then you realized if the design and the way the part was produced were better it would be much simpler to use

Later you start designing using some designing tool and then the main part , producing it, you know all the process of manufacturing right from using a CNC or Injection Molding the same but then the cost associated with the process is not affordable for the first part

Then comes the main part " The Fear of getting your Design copied " before you could even launch your product

Not anymore Since FDM Technology Patent expired it gave tremendous opportunities to early smart mindful of people to start building machine based on their understanding , thereafter a lot of machines have been introduced and much more is built ,Now the world is moving ahead to built human parts which is greatest achievement in the human mankind , still a lot has to be done in medical field though , lets talk about the technology used worldwide

People have been using Cartesian Type, Delta Type printers ,some assembled other DIY kits , most of them emerged from reprap versions , but some founders of printers like Ultimaker who couldn't build the printer in their training session of reprap went back and made the awesome Machine so much professional in use

Since the printers are available and their raw material being produced in India, we have so many companies in India building their own printers , Some of them reselling the printers in market it is not difficult to gain hands on them we will surely discuss about them on this blogs of ours but the problem being understanding how to use a 3D printer effectively, which will be discussed in upcoming Blogs, you can visit the videos section in resources blog to look at some of our uploads and also Subscribe to our channel on you-tube.

The advantages of using 3D printing Being

  • Faster lead time to Market
  • Easy optimization of design without leak to Market
  • letting your brain Think Out of Box ,Creative Design rather than adhering to someone else's :P
One thing should always be reminded you can use 3D printing Technology everywhere in manufacturing

Kindly let me know your comments on the thoughts !!!!
